indoor yarn bombing

you know I love me a bit of yarn bombing (you can see mine here, and more here and here), so I really like the way Aurélie Mathigot has gone and put some inside. Look at that. Cute-o.

tonight, we knit

tattoo

.
Tonight I am knitting with Brown Owls. In the interest of research (and to stop myself looking at the clock quite-so-much) here are some knitting-related badges and magnets.

Compulsive Knitting

.
.
Compulsive Knitting by Daniela Edburg.
.
For me it began to be a form of occupational therapy, even without knowing what I was doing. I started knitting long strips of fluffy pink material, and after a while I realized it was perfect to put together a brain, and a nice new fluffy brain was exactly what I needed at the moment..
.
Whenever I see a person knitting I can’t help being drawn to them—it’s hypnotic. I silently analyze the texture of the yarn, the choice of colors, I imagine the sweater or the scarf already finished, how it feels to the touch, how it will look when its been worn for years. It makes me nostalgic even, reminds me of the passing of time.
.
Interesting interview here.
.
Thanks Joe!

this huge kitting installation? Holy Dooley look at those knitting needles.

A project for The Nature Conservency made with wool from an organic flock of Panama sheep from Lava lake Ranch, Idaho, it was created by Christien Meindertsma. See more, and her other work, here.

knitted lego

This adorable knitted lego man was just featured on Fight Knit Club. I think this would make the perfect toy/teddy bear for a little boy. Or me, for that matter. I can see I may have to expand my knitting repertoire to go beyond straight stitches.

"Some Assembly Required is a pattern that will enable you to make an adorable toy that can be taken apart and put together again. The head, torso, and legs are independent pieces, so you could make multiple pieces in different colours and they would be interchangeable. I’ve included a tutorial on boxes and edges so you can make nice crisp corners. The tutorial isn’t necessary to make the toy, but it may be helpful."

Pattern available from Ravelry. (Do let me know if you make one, and if it's tricky! I'm talking to you, Rolley!)

most inoffensive graffitti ever

.
Some more guerilla knitting appeared in my neighbourhood last week, geez I love it. So when someone on freecycle* was giving away a bag of mixed wool, well I jumped and picked it up after work today.
.

Look at what I scored! Perfect for random knit-bombing. I already have a few places in mind, a light pole here, a park bench there.. Or shall I try something like this?
.
You can read about the history of guerilla knitting here, and see pics in this flickr pool.
.

Just curious, do you say 'wool' or 'yarn'? I've always called it 'wool', but it gets tricky when you've got 100% wool wool. And when do you find time to knit?

*Freecycle is a community group that aims to reduce landfill by finding homes for things that would usually be thrown away. You can join a group in your area, and recieve emails of offers and ask for things too. I've seen lots of baby things, bikes, some appliance, tools and heaps if books be offered and accepted, and so far I've scored boardgames, books, wool and given away some cat furniture and strawberry plants. Recycling, saving money and helping people out. Ace.

Prairie Boots

Comfy and cozy Prairie Boots will get you through the coldest of winters. Turn them down for ankle length or leave them up to keep your shins warm. You don’t need to seam – just add funky buttons and they are ready to wear. Warning: it is so fun to watch them take shape on your needles that you may become addicted. But that’s okay, they make great gifts!

Knit Up Peeps!

I've posted about guerrilla knitting a few times, remember Knitta Please? Well the founding chickadee herself is in Australia, and coming right here to Sydney! She's been covering the world with knitted goodness, and I think it's freakin' awesome.

"I don't care if I get arrested. There is no freakin' way that I'm leaving this city without tagging something big," Sayeg says.

See the story in the Sydney Morning Herald here

Yeehaa! I'm crossing my fingers for the Harbour Bridge, or the Opera House, (so is pottymouth mama!) I have heard of a guerrilla knitting group in Newtown, but have never found the elusive crew. I think we ought to pick a landmark, statue or corner, spread the word and descend with knitting on a certain date to bomb or own bit of our lovely city. If you're not in town, maybe you could knit up a square or shape and post to me, I'll join them up and post photos of your knitting gracing famous public spaces!

Oh Knitta Please!

Thank you B.. for finding and sharing an AWESOME WEBSITE made by a group of guerilla knitters doing their thang in a sweet way (didn't mean to sound so bling there, but that's how it rolls, brothas. woah. should stop now.)

If you enjoy random knitting installations in unexpected suburbian places all over the world, go roll your eyes over knittaplease.

(While your wandering, go check out B's lovely blog Just Passing By, it's sweet like an icecream in the park.)
.
Hope your weekend is going just ace. I'm almost *gasp* sick of sewing as I race to finish the pieces for the exhibition. Thank you for all the lovely comments, emails and support! You rock!
