most inoffensive graffitti ever

.
Some more guerilla knitting appeared in my neighbourhood last week, geez I love it. So when someone on freecycle* was giving away a bag of mixed wool, well I jumped and picked it up after work today.
.

Look at what I scored! Perfect for random knit-bombing. I already have a few places in mind, a light pole here, a park bench there.. Or shall I try something like this?
.
You can read about the history of guerilla knitting here, and see pics in this flickr pool.
.

Just curious, do you say 'wool' or 'yarn'? I've always called it 'wool', but it gets tricky when you've got 100% wool wool. And when do you find time to knit?

*Freecycle is a community group that aims to reduce landfill by finding homes for things that would usually be thrown away. You can join a group in your area, and recieve emails of offers and ask for things too. I've seen lots of baby things, bikes, some appliance, tools and heaps if books be offered and accepted, and so far I've scored boardgames, books, wool and given away some cat furniture and strawberry plants. Recycling, saving money and helping people out. Ace.

  1. Wow, I've read alot about this but never found anyone who's actually seen it in real life! I love the single link in the chain, discreet but also a wonderful splash of colour. Keep us updated whatever you decide to do!

  2. that is such a cool idea! I've never seen that before! I don't knit, I crochet really badly, but I've always called it yarn.

and freecycle is a grand idea!

  3. I call it yarn, because I am allergic to actual wool.

  6. hehe, I like what people have done, but I'm a little worried about that tree? Is that gonna interfere with how the tree sheds bark and all that? I love trees so I hope it doesn't hurt the tree in any way. Meh I'm sure the tree will be fine, I'm just experiencing some tree paranoia, its only natural (hehe that's a pun).

hrm.. I call it yarn sometimes, usually I call it wool though! : D if its 100% animal wool sometimes i just say what animal it is, like, if its all alpaca i'll be like "hrm i might use that alpaca there for this vest I'm knitting".. : )

  7. I say wool.

...and that's a great freecycle score. I've tried to sign up but the process in Perth (or is it everywhere?) seems really convoluted and clunky. Maybe it's just me?

  8. tea with lucy, no its, convoluted in england too :) but worth it, if only to get rid of your own crap!
I call it both, and I'm trained in textiles! how stupid is that? I'm curious, how do yo get a tube of knitting over a tree? do you knit it flat and then sew it up round the tree?
