catching up

Sometimes I feel like all my time
is catching up
on things left behind.
Projects piled up ceiling high
sometimes just make me
grin, and sigh.
I don’t mind the calls I have to make
or icing chocolate cakes
I baked,
running out of milk or bread,
leaving things I know
still unsaid
I like finishing a good read
and poking holes for planting seeds
but the catching up I like the most
Is you and me,
and tea and toast.

Thanks Pip, for another great Words and Pictures theme- see more here!

I'm tempted to put this one with the bad high school poetry I posted a while back. Although I just penned it quickly in my lunch break and not while filled with teenage angst, it's about the same calibre! Oh well.

Because Everyone Wrote Bad Poetry In Highschool Part 1

I spent some time cross-legged on my bedroom floor this afternoon, re-reading old journals and notebooks I keep in an old bax under my bed. I came across a bunch of 'poetry'- and I use the term loosely-from my (turbulent) teenage years. Some of it is very funny. Some is very sad. All of it made me think about what I was going through, and stuff I haven't thought about for years (including my first bf, travelling around australia in a van with complete strangers, and what it's like to live in a tiny room on less than $20 a week). Here's one for your reading pleasure..
if I lie very still
I feel myself, taking up space
pushing air away breathe dissolving
if I lie very still
I can feel the warmth quietly radiate
off my skin
hear myself living, feel my existence
taste my disquiet
if I lie very still
I can sense the vibration
to the edges of my skin
that is me

Join in and post one of yours (I know you wrote some) I dare you.

once there was a girl in the world

Once there was a girl young in the world.
She knew nothing of the ways of boys, and
when one sweet gentle-boy held her hand
and offered her his lovely heart
she trampled it in her ignorance, showered in
his tears, and went away to get lost in the world.
.
.
Once there was a girl lost in the world.
She fell in love with a boy who wandered
and when he fed her with his quiet ways but
did not need her, she wondered at his ways
and her stomach rumbled
.
.
Once there was a girl who was hungry.
A boy said to her 'run away with me'
and eat things starting with 'c'.
When he shipwrecked in
another bed she cried, and sighed
and she sailed on without him
.
.
Once there was a girl sailing across the sea...
