on an island

I caught a train and then another, then a ferry. We lazed on the beach, played ukulele and had a picnic, but it was too cold to swim. I met his sisters and their husbands and kidlets too, who were all super nice. We made pizza. We did magic tricks. We went for a beautiful walk in the morning and held hands a lot. Then we caught the ferry home again, and I caught a train and he caught a plane.

Thanks to the couple who chose the lovely island to get married on, and invited the family. Thanks to the family for inviting me over for the day too. I had a lovely time on an island with my squeeze.

I'm very different now

to when I was 18, and better at lots of things.

Cooking. Being semi-responsible. Wearing colours other than black. Typing fast. Not losing socks. Filing important documents. Going to bed early. Telling people I love them. Keeping my hair one colour. Returning phone calls. Sobriety. Not leaving town with barely a word. Sewing. Understanding myself. Growing veges. Paying bills more or less on time. Appreciating people. Enjoying simple things. Making pancakes. Using my words.

But I still:
Avoid clothes shopping. Ignore realities I'd rather not deal with. Get annoyed by my sister. Treat my pets like people. Feel a bit lost sometimes. Keep my teddy bears in a cupboard. Occasionally have breakfast for dinner. Become engrossed in books. Forget to go grocery shopping. Get nervous. Daydream.

photo jojo- pretty things for pretty pictures

I was, ahem, 'researching' when I came across this website and Oh. My. Lots of swell things.
These are a few of my favourites, but they also have cute camera cases, amazing lens for your iPhone, tripods, instant cameras, and stuff for cool special effects like smoke, filters and colours, and light-developing fabric dye. lots of cool things. Makes me want to go take photos of EVERYTHING.

You can go have a look here.
Call it research.

::

I could get everything I've always wanted
or lose something I've always loved.

both options are, quite frankly, terrifying.

my week in pictures- camping

I went camping with my friend Rolley. So nice to spend time with a friend who lives so far away, text and emails and Skype just aren't the same, are they? and it was his birthday too!

It was such fun! We walked, swam, played dice, ate delicious breakfasts and smokey cheesy jaffles on the fire and burritos and the best. yoghurt. ever. We wandered through the local town, stopping at an antique store, art gallery and craft store with some amazing quilts. There was a nosy goanna, one eyed old possum who tried to run off with the peanut butter, and a one-legged bush turkey (the subject of which made the park ranger a bit shamefaced and quiet..) I picked wildflowers each morning, we lazed around reading on blankets, and talked into the night. I didn't wear a watch and when I found myself wondering about the time, I though 'pfft! time! it doesn't matter!' and that is a nice feeling indeed.

my week in pictures

Trying out a new project at the local markets. More info soon, I promise.
(And yes, I reserve the right to chop off my own head.)

Reviving the vege garden a little, and hoping to save the seeds of the lettuces I missed.

Visiting family, eating friendship bread and drinking tea, laughing
and finding it's time to leave too early.

Six is adjusting to not being the baby anymore, although
she is not keen on sharing my lap. Not at all.

Selling some of my vintage things at the markets.
This picnic set is still mine though. Perhaps a giveaway?

Working on an entirely handstitched quilt. Good excuse to watch movies and 'work' on it.

Surprising amount of time spent on protoypes and versions of duck nappy/diapers for Clementine (Yes, really. They are available in the US but not here?) Now on Version 5.0 which works, except she's grown out of them already. Sigh. Still, a fair trade to solve the poop problem.

Hope your week was lovely x

:: Quotation

(via)

Learn to write about the ordinary. give homage to old coffee cups, sparrows, city buses, thin ham sandwiches. make a list of everything ordinary you can think of. keep adding to it. promise yourself, before you leave the earth, to mention everything on your list at least once in a poem, short story, newspaper article.

Soft Maps

Loving these gorgeous Soft-Maps, quilts of cities and neighbourhoods made by Emily Fisher.
I wonder if I would have the patience, but I want one. (You can get a DIY kit here) Or a patchwork with my favourite neighbourhoods. Like a geography memory quilt.

Found via Emily's studio neighbour, the ever-lovely swissmiss.

Clementine

Clementine likes:
* sitting quietly in a sling to go to the shops
* hanging out while I work and talking to her reflection
* swimming in her tub
* standing in the bottom of the shower
* cherry tomatoes, grapes and blueberries
* catching moths around the lamp
* sticking her beak in corners and finding spiders
* watching movies and stealing crisps
* chasing cats
* gardening. the eating bugs part.
* running up the hallway
* nibbling toes
* following me everywhere

Clementine does not like:
* being left alone. ever.
* gun fights in movies
* the stairs
* not being allowed to sit on my throat whenever she likes
* being stepped on. funny that.

birthday duck

This is me. This is my duck. Her name is Clementine, and she is the Best. Present. Ever.*
It is my birthday today. Yes. Although I DO like to stretch my birthday into a full week. More cake that way.

Prepare yourself for repeated duck-related posts.

(* tied with my last duck.)
