::Quotation

The most important thing is to create; nothing else matters, creation is all.

Pablo Picasso

(I collect quotes, I love to read them; they make me laugh, expand my thoughts and inspire me. I'd like to share some of my favourites. Post a quote that makes you smile, or cry, or see the world differently, got you through a hard time, or something funny your friend said last week. That would be lovely. )

new meme- quote tuesday

I collect quotes in an old handbound book. I love to read them when I'm feeling uncertain or heavy with the world. They make me laugh, expand my thoughts and inspire me. I collect all kinds, some from books, some from movies or tv. shows, from historical figures, or something funny my friend said last week. I'd like to share some of my favourites.

Every Tuesday I'll post one of my favourites with a photo. Do add your name if you join in - post a quote that makes you smile, or cry, or see the world differently, or got you through a hard time. That would be lovely.

My Perfect Life

I like this post from Pip, and saw Katie Crackernuts having a go too, so here is mine. Do play along if you like.

I have had four cups of tea.
My hair isn't long enough for a ponytail, but not short enough to leave alone.
We aren't having Christmas presents this year, because we're saving for a trip.
I need to plant some zucchini seedlings,
And clean my studio, perhaps
I have to finish some embroidered monster tattoos
There are things where they are not meant to be
But they are nice things
I mustn't forget to feed the chickens and pigs

Before I go to the neighbours for tea.
There isn't any laneways near here, and noone is fighting
although lots of people I know are breaking up
and that's sad.
My bed is not made
but I have done the dishes
I am listening to Mumford and Sons
and wondering if I ought to have a salad for lunch, or bruchetta

and if it will rain today, or just stay cloudy
I don't know what angel chimes are either
I have paint under my fingernails
There are library books all over the table
We have lots of chickens
But no vintage wallpaper
I really like both of those things
I do have a typewriter for letters, and three cats
and a roof over my head, check.
I have sore eyes and itchy bites, but I don't really mind
I really really like Japanese food too

I wonder what I will be doing for New Years Eve this year
I would like some fancy gumboots
that would be nice
and also a house in Brisbane with a verandah and a garden
I always forget I have a mug of tea and let half go cold
And my phone doesn't get reception out here

I miss talking to my sister
It's Christmas in 9 days
Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing
but then I forget to worry, and do something anyway
I am looking forward to seeing my family next week
but worried about learning magic tricks for the family concert
in case they don't work.
I am going to read the new Frankie on the train

and write in my journal
Now I'm finished my list.

Your turn.

One Poppy Dress

This weekend my Mum visited and we went to the markets, and she taught me the art of bargaining (usually I'm a bit too nice). I hardly ever find clothes I like at the markets, but this time I picked up an apricot blouse and a poppy dress for the princely sum of 15 bucks. Bargain.
.
The dress had a gray background with poppies strewn across it, and was nice but a little, well, sack-like. But hooray!
.

Did I mention my Mum was a dressmaker? Well, she ruched up the sides, made a low scoop back and added a strip belt. All in four hours. And I wore it to dinner that night. (In the exitement, I forgot to get a 'before' photo to show you. Just imagine the same, but a sack. And the 'after' photos are a bit doss. Sorry.)
.
Now I love it. Thanks Markets. Thanks Mum.

flea market finds

this week I'm playing along with ' Flea Market Finds' hosted by the lovely Sophie at Her Library Adventures. I'm a day late, but any-hoo. This is what I found..

A gold fawn money box. Isn't it kitschy? Going to paint it green I thinks. Or shall I leave it as is?

Also some more vintage suitcases (because gee-whiz I don't have enough of those), a bird ornament, some old fabric, some lunch and a sore arm from carrying it all home. Go have a squiz at Sophie's lovely blog, and see some other lucky peep's great finds too.

Ogres.are not. like cakes.

The theme for this week's (last weeks?) My Place and Yours meme from Meet Me At Mikes is My secret weapon.

It is, a little unexpectedly even to me; animated kids movies. I love to have them on in the background as I stitch or stuff or knit. They are cheerful (mostly) funny (with adult jokes interwoven that go over kids heads) and distracting enough so that I don't get bored with counting rows, but not so distracting that I sew ears on backwards. I think from working with kids too, they remind me of simple times and they way they would laugh uproariously and repeat the best lines over and over.

Whatever it is, I started small with Shrek and Shrek 2. Now whenever I've had a glum day, I know that picking up a new one and picking up some thread will make me calm and sort me out.

I probably own more kids movies than a grown woman without children should, but I mean to have some one day, so it's an investment, right?

(and the title of this post? arguably my favourite bit of Shrek. Parfait may be the most delicious thing on the whole damn planet)

where the magic happens..

I often have lots of ideas for posts on the fly and are too busy to post, then of course when I have a moment to sit down at home, in front of the computer with a cup of tea, I can't.think.of.a.single.thing.
.
This is (another) reason I love memes. Easy, sharing something interesting, linking with other bloggers and indulging in curiousity by seeing what everyone else does too.

This week's My Place and Yours is Blog HQ, hosted by Pip. Please excuse the clutter, we have a friend staying, so everything is kind of compressed to fit the fold out couch. To the right there is the kitchen where my housemates cook dinner and chat to me at my desk. My desk, where I write posts and look at photos, spend hours reading blogs and news and watching inane clips on youtube or silly pictures of animals with captions. Yes, I am one of those people.

Speaking of silly, I find it silly that sometimes I find myself spending all day on my computer at work, then jot home so I can spend half the night on one too. Remember when they didn't exist? Whatever did we do?
.
If you squint hard at this little photo, you might see the unicorn I found, the fish-with-no-name, that little turtle, Anne of Green Gables, part of a boardgame collection and a new monster waiting to go into the shop.

my bedside

.
The light isn't very good which doesn't make for good photos, but I think you've seen this before; my quilt, my pile of books to read, an embroidered cushion from my sister, suitcase of fabric and flip clock that clicks in the night. Usually a pile of bobbypins, a used mug or two, my phone with an extra alarm set, just.in.case.
.
For this weeks 'My Place and Yours' meme from Meet Me At Mikes. I'm enjoying peeking at what other people have by their bed, you can see more here.

via don't foget to fly

I really love this bedside.
.

from HomeSweetHome

And oh my, isn't this the sweetest? I've always wanted an alcove bed like this, so darn cozy.
.
I also like this bed very.much.

and this one too.

sketch baby

I like to draw, I forget I like to draw, I forget the sense of satisfaction when you brush away the eraser crumbs and put your pencil or pen down and hold it at arms length and tilt your head, just so.

Sketching is an amazing way to be creative so easily, and can take you so many places. It's also a habit, so to get back into it I present a drawing a day.

The only rule is that you must draw every day. On computer paper, the margin of a book, on the back of a beer coaster, it doesn't matter. Big, small, it matters not. In pen, chalk, paint, ink, pencil, spaghetti sauce, that doesn't matter either. The point is to get back into the habit of jotting and doodling and sketching little things.

If you'd like to do a drawing a day you can put this button on your sidebar if you like, and leave a comment so I can make a list on the sidebar of who's playing along. You don't have to post every drawing you do, just one or two is fine, or you don't have to post any at all. We can visit each others sketches. That would be nice.
